The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas is laid down on a modern panel.
The thick varnish has very much yellowed and is a slightly milky and dirty with surface on top of it.
The original pigments appear well preserved and the loose brush work is nicely visible. There are a few paint losses; one in the upper right area in the dark background and some in the lower part. The canvas and painted surface have suffered from the adhesion to the panel, and a relief of small bumps is visible in the part on the right edge.
Inspection with UV shows strengthening of the eyes of the dog and retouching to a damage in the forehead above the eye to the left. Some minor scattered old rerouchings can be seen but the UV turns green making it difficult to read.
